Open your eyes – opportunity is all around you
‘Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.’ – Thomas Edison
You currently possess a brilliant source of unseen wealth – the wealth of opportunity. Opportunity and abundance are only limited by your imagination, and as there are no limits to what you can imagine, then there surely are no limits to what you can achieve. Now, before you go and accuse me of getting all ‘hokey’ with you, please indulge me and read on.
We don’t always take our opportunities in life. We are held back by inertia, fear of failure and rejection, fear of the unknown and sometimes even by family pressures.
I quote a segment of the speech given by Nelson Mandela when he received his Nobel Peace Prize. It was a quote from the author Marianne Williamson:
‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?’
Prepare yourself and constantly be open to opportunity. Create opportunities by boldly making the move to seize the moment when it appears. Your attitude and mindset will always be the judge of how you view or grasp an opportunity.
I love this story:
Two employees of an American shoe factory were sent by their company to Africa to investigate the possibilities of opening up a branch office. One wrote in his report, ‘Nothing doing, here they all go barefoot.’
His colleague began with the words, ‘Huge potential . . .’ Same circumstance, different attitude, and I assure you – a different result.
‘Impossible is a word only to be found in the dictionary of fools.’
– Napoleon Bonaparte
